Dr. Balakrishnan Prithiviraj

Researcher and professor at Dalhousie University

 

Balaknshnan Prithiviraj is a recognised expert on microbial interactions and effects of marine bioproducts on plants and animals. He has several industrial patents to his credit and more than 85 papers published in some of the world's most prestigious scientific journals. Born in India, he obtained his Ph.D. in Mycology and Plant Pathology from Banaras Hindu University. After leaving a research position at Colorado State University, he moved in 2005 to Nova Scotia in Canada, where there is an active biotechnology industry working with algae from the cold North Atlantic Sea. Today he conducts his research at Dalhousie University, Nova Scotia's largest university, where in addition to holding the Research Chair in Plant Stress Physiology, he is Associate Vice President and Head of Global Relations for its Department of Plant, Food and Environmental Sciences.
