Dr. Paulo Canessa

Associate Professor, Plant Biotechnology Center, Faculty of Life Sciences, Universidad Andrés Bello

He holds a degree in Biology and a Ph.D. in Molecular Genetics and Microbiology from the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile. He is currently a Principal Investigator and Associate Professor at the Plant Biotechnology Center (CBV) of Universidad Andrés Bello (UNAB), where he leads the Fungal Genetics Laboratory. In addition, he is an Associate Researcher at the Millennium Institute for Integrative Biology (iBio). His research focuses on the molecular biology of plant–pathogen interactions, with an emphasis on plant pathogenic fungi, gene regulation, virulence factors, and plant defense mechanisms. He has developed integrative approaches combining functional genomics, transcriptomics, and proteomics applied to relevant models such as Botrytis cinerea. Botrytis cinerea.
